"Dance With My Father" by Tamyra Gray, Céline Dion, Luther Vandross + Richard Marx & Lara Fabian

I've always had a problem with this song cuz Luther Vandross clearly ain't the type of soul singer I like and admire though he is praised by almost everyone. Same thing goes for Céline Dion who sang this song at the Grammys a few years ago. But now that I've discovered this rendition of that very song by Tamyra Gray ( a few months ago), this song really means a lot to me and Tamyra Gray takes it to another level !!

You know Tamyra Gray already sang "I Will Always Love You" and you HAVE TO see her live performance, it's absolutely stunning and fantabulous!!

Nevertheless, Céline Dion did a remarkable live rendition of it too as I already posted a few months ago, but here it is again:

She also did a terrible studio version which sounds just awful enough to make you wanna shut her f*** up! here it is:

The song was written by Richard Marx (he actually won the grammy award for this song) who's biggest success was in the 80's with the song "Right Here Waiting" (i've already posted a "blast from the past" from that song here: [WATCH VIDEO "Right Here Waiting"]. On a sidenote, Richard Marx also sang a duet with the amazing Lara Fabian

called "Surrender to Me"

y'a 2 ans oui. la rumeur dit qu'après avoir entendu la version de celine dion de sa chanson "dance with my father" il aurait fait un arrêt cardiaque...

C'est vraiment avec cette cghanson que j'ai découvert Luther Vandross. Moi non plus, c'est pas trop le genre de chanteur soul que j'aime à la base. Mais finalement, j'ai fait un petit tour sur youtube et écoute une fois "a house is not a home" aux NAACP Awards, il la chante à Dionne Warwick, et c'est vraiment beau et émouvant. Et j'ai aussi découvert la voix super basse qu'il peut faire, j'en étais vraiment impressioné !

Tamyra Gray est vraiment une super artiste, sa version est très bonne. Ses lives sont toujours bons, mais bon son album était plus que décevant...

Et celine m'avait bien surpris sur sa reprise en live. En plus, au début, elle avait un problème de son, donc elle pouvait pas s'entendre pdt toute la chanson (enfin, c'est ce que dit la rumeur !), donc respect quand même. Et elle l'avait joué soft, et elle était belle en plus. Par contre, la version studio est à chier.

Attendez je me dois de défendre la version de Céline Dion quand même là :), je crois que si cette chanson a été reprise par Céline lors des grammy's (Luther était à l'hopital, il est mort peu après) (Céline a ensuite enregistré une version studio sur l'album hommage à Luther) c'est parce cette chanson traite de la perte d'un père et que le père de Céline venait de décéder. C'est donc un hommage qu'elle lui rend et je trouve ça très touchant...
